Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2010-2011 educational progress for the Swan Valley Middle School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact me at 989.921.4601 for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site www.swanvalley.k12.mi.us or you may review a copy from my office.
Swan Valley School District initiated its school improvement planning process during the 1990-91 school year. A district team was formed and a strategic planning process was implemented. Representatives of the community, board members, the administration, parents, faculty and students worked together to formulate a district mission statement and developed district goals based on perceived needs. This District School Improvement Team (DSIT) continues to meet throughout each school year to receive updates on the progress made in these goals and aims. Each year the district needs are discussed and goals and aims are formulated in a District School Improvement Plan.
School improvement plans are developed at the building level, which are aligned with district goals. During the school year teachers participate in a series of scheduled staff in-services in a sustained effort to improve student performance. Teachers have been introduced to new writing strategies across the curriculum, pre- and post reading strategies, graphic organizers, the integration of technology. The staff has developed individual goals and strategies based on available desegregated data.
We are thankful for the support of the entire community of Swan Valley. The long-standing success of our school district and our “tradition of excellence” is a result of a community that values education.
Sincerely,
Craig Blower Principal
