Children are asked to read daily.  To ensure this happens I require my class to keep a reading log.  They may color in the day they read on the calendar, mark it with an X or write the name or names of the books in the calendar square.  These books or stories can be ones that the child reads him/her self or ones that the parent reads to the child.

I will send home a new calendar for the month at the beginning of that month.  I ask that they be returned at the end of the month.  The date of return will be on the bottom of the calendar.

I tell my class:  "You need to eat every day to feed your body otherwise it will not grow and mature."  "You also need to feed your mind everyday by reading so your mind grows and matures."

Have fun with this activity and enjoy the quiet time reading with your child.

Find below a PDF document of the Reading Log in case you misplace or something happens to the one brough home in your child's folder, you can print one out.
