Michigan District of Kiwanis/Michigan State Police Law Enforcement Career Academy

There would be six days at the academy where students have activities and seminars that introduce them to law enforcement. The Michigan State Police Training Academy is located in Lansing.

Criteria for student selection

  1. Shows interest in a possible law related career
  2. Has not attended a previous Michigan State Police sponsored program
  3. Good moral character
  4. Minimum grade point average of a 2.0 and better
  5. Currently in 10, 11, or 12 grade
  6. Has good health-(must be able to handle vigorous but reasonable exercises)
  7. Has no juvenile/criminal record 

The academy cost $390.00. Mrs. Luplow has applications if interested.


Michigan Department of Transportation TRAC Intership

Interns have the opportunity to earn $10 per hour and $2,500 civil engineering college scholarship. The program runs June 13 - July 29, 2011. Fall Reading Clinic Writing Clinic & Math Clinic

 

Saginaw Valley State University is offering a writing clinic and math clinic for any students. The tuition of students is $325.00 per each subject. The program is a pre and post assessment and twelve 50-minute sessions. Please see Mrs. Luplow in the counseling office for the application.


Saginaw Valley State University S.A.T. and A.C.T. Test Preparation Workshops

This is a workshop is offered to 10th and 11th grade students who are planning on taking the ACT in the winter and spring. This workshop will discuss test taking skills and strategies. The workshop is Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Saginaw Valley State University in Wickes Hall from 9:00am to 3:30 pm. The cost is $85.00. There are registration papers in the Counseling office.


The Christian Connector

The Christian Connector provides FREE Christian college information as well as $2,500 Christian college scholarship drawings. Students can log on to http://www.christianconnector.com/ to request information and be automatically entered into the scholarship drawing.


My Favorite Teacher Contest

Students will be encouraged to write an essay or poem describing their favorite teacher and how that person has influenced and inspired them.
The winner in each school district will recieve:

  • 10 Sterling Children's Classic books

Six regional winners receive:

  • A nook eBook Reader
  • $500 B&N Gift Card

National winner receives:

  • $5,000 for him/her
  • Recognition at a special B&N event
  • $5,000 for his/her school
  • A visit to his/her school by a well-known author
